As a young boy my mother taught me to fish when I could first reach the oars and row her around the pot lakes close to Harbour Springs, Michigan, then when I could swim three laps in an Olympic Pool and not touch bottom or the sides of the pool I was given a 12ft alum. boat with a 3hp johnson and told to leave after sunrise and be back before sunset and always have a life vest within reach and I was free to go any where on lake Michigan I wanted. Looking back I think my family ate more fish than they wanted to. Coming closer to present day I started fishing the northwest 20+ years ago when I came to visit my sister in Cheney, Washington during an extended road trip fishing the West Coast, and fell in love with the area. And The Fishing Part? I purchased a lake cabin on Deer Lake about 1hr. North of Spokane, Washington and started flying up from San Diego ( where I also owned a boat and fished privately off California and in Mexico) to explore these waters and discovered these Giant Rainbow which seemed like the Fresh water cross between a Tuna and a Marlin. As my love for fishing and the mid-life crises came together I abandoned California and moved to exactly the same distance from the Canadian Border as I had been to the Mexican border. Since 1992 I have owned and operated Diamond Charters. I have over the years placed in the top three positions in the Rainbow in our 9 day fishing derbies and last year we had the No 2 fish in the Fall Derby a 21 lb 14 oz.
